Recognize it
What it can look like
- Sadness, rage, or numbness arriving where you expected joy
- Anxiety that circles the baby and won't land
- Intrusive thoughts that frighten you (far more common than anyone says)
- Feeling like a stranger to yourself, and ashamed to admit it
Our approach
How we treat it at New Hope
These windows matter, so we see perinatal patients promptly. Treatment may include therapy, medication, or both, including clear, judgment-free conversations about safety considerations while pregnant or nursing, and we coordinate with your OB so your whole care team is rowing together. What you're feeling is common, it's treatable, and it is not a reflection of your love.
In crisis, call or text 988, or call 911. The National Maternal Mental Health Hotline is also available 24/7 at 1-833-TLC-MAMA.
Getting help isn't stepping away from being a good mother.
